Woodward Federal Release Systems
Federal custody is not one database. The Federal Bureau of Prisons, or BOP, holds people serving federal sentences and offers a durable public locator. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, operates a locator for immigration detention within a shorter time window. The U.S. Marshals Service, or USMS, manages many federal prisoners from arrest through court-ordered release or delivery to BOP, but it has no comparable historical public name locator.
A Woodward County connection can arise without a federal facility in the county. A person may be held temporarily at Woodward County Jail under federal authority, transferred from the jail to ICE, or have a Woodward address while serving a sentence elsewhere. Always ask which agency supplied the commitment and which agency received the person.
| System | Primary use | Release limit |
|---|---|---|
| BOP | Federal sentenced prisoners, including many released after 1982 | No longer in BOP custody does not exclude supervision or other custody |
| ICE | Current immigration detention and recent release within stated coverage | No-match may reflect time window, exclusion, or lag |
| USMS | Federal pretrial, transport, and court-ordered movement | No BOP-style public historical locator |
| Woodward County Jail | Local physical booking and county discharge | Cannot establish later federal release |
BOP Woodward Release Search
The BOP Inmate Locator covers current federal prisoners and federal inmates released from 1982 onward. Search by BOP register number when known. A name search can also use first and last name with age, race, and sex. Compare the register number and biographical details before treating the result as the right person.
BOP explains that a past “Release Date” with no facility indicates release occurred on that date and the person is no longer in BOP custody. “RELEASED” has the same custody meaning. A future release date is projected, while “UNKNOWN” means the confinement term has not been determined. “IN TRANSIT” is movement, often involving USMS, and is not release.
The official BOP locator explanation defines those fields:
The screen helps interpret a result but does not show every later obligation. BOP warns that leaving BOP custody does not exclude federal supervised release, parole in an applicable case, state custody, or immigration custody.
- Search the register number first or enter the exact name and available traits.
- Open the matching result and record the register number, release date, and location or status.
- Decide whether the date is past or future and whether “IN TRANSIT” or “UNKNOWN” appears.
- Check the federal docket and any receiving system before calling the event community release.
ICE Woodward Release Search
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System covers adults currently detained by ICE and people in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. Official material also states that recently released ICE records can remain searchable for up to 60 days, though not every person appears and processing can lag. The locator cannot search minors.
Use a nine-digit A-number and country of birth when possible. Add leading zeros if the A-number has fewer than nine digits. The alternative is exact name, date of birth, and country of birth. Spelling, order, and country data matter. A no-match can reflect an incorrect field, a person outside the recent-release window, a system gap, or a movement not yet posted.
An ICE release is not the same as the end of all legal process. Release paperwork can require check-ins at a specific place, date, and time, separate from immigration-court hearings. ICE publishes 1-866-347-2423 as a national contact number. After the locator's recent-release period, the relevant Enforcement and Removal Operations office, counsel, and the person's documents become more important.
Conversely, community release from ICE does not resolve a state criminal case. Review the Woodward court docket and any county discharge record independently. Each system should be named beside its event and date.
USMS Woodward Custody Records
USMS manages federal prisoners from arrest through federal court proceedings, acquittal, court-ordered release, or transfer to BOP. It also moves prisoners and can use local or contract beds. A person physically housed at Woodward County Jail under federal authority may have a county facility entry without having a Woodward state criminal case.
There is no USMS public historical name locator equivalent to the BOP tool. Use the federal criminal docket, defense counsel, the detention facility, and the relevant USMS district office for a lawful inquiry. A later BOP record can confirm delivery into the sentenced federal system. An ICE record can confirm an immigration transfer when that is the next custodian.
The official USMS custody and detention information explains the agency's role. For a specific Woodward County Jail episode, ask the jail for the committing authority, federal case number if recorded, discharge manner, date and time, and receiving agency. “Federal pickup” is not enough when the question is where custody continued.
- Detainer
- A notice or hold from another authority that can affect release or destination.
- In transit
- Movement between custodians or facilities, not community release.
- Supervised release
- A federal court-ordered period in the community after imprisonment.
- A-number
- An immigration registration number used to identify a person in ICE systems.
Woodward Federal Transfer Records
Woodward County Jail owns the local booking and discharge entry for a person held there, even when another authority is involved. Call 580-256-3264, extension 2, and ask whether the person is physically present. If not, ask whether the system says community release, federal transfer, ICE transfer, court, or another destination. Obtain the effective date, time, and receiving agency.
A written request can seek the booking sheet, committing authority, date and cause of commitment, discharge date and manner, liberating instrument reference, and transfer destination. Under 51 O.S. §24A.8(A)(8), jail-register information includes date or manner of discharge or escape if kept. Lawful redactions and protected federal information may still apply.
The county record ends at the county boundary. It cannot establish what USMS, BOP, or ICE did later. Send the next inquiry to the receiving custodian. If the county answer is only “not here,” ask for the record rather than treating absence as release.

Federal Release Record Checks
A strong federal confirmation uses at least two layers. The locator establishes a custody status within its own system. The federal docket supplies court authority, sentence, release order, or supervision terms. Agency records can clarify movements that the public locator abbreviates. For ICE, release or check-in paperwork may be the most precise post-release instruction.
For pre-1982 BOP history, official BOP guidance points toward National Archives research with the person's name, date of birth or age, race, and approximate dates. For a recent BOP release, preserve the register number and past release date. For ICE, preserve the exact A-number search fields and the date of inquiry because the released-person window is short.
Do not force a single federal label onto every result. “Not in BOP custody” says nothing direct about ICE. An ICE no-match says nothing direct about USMS. A federal court release order may still be followed by immigration detention. Each claim should identify the system being left and the later authority checked.
Note: Locator status, court authority, and physical departure are separate facts that may post at different times.
Confirm Woodward Federal Release
Start with the last known badge, facility, case, or identification number. If Woodward County Jail was the last physical site, get its discharge manner. If BOP held the person, use the register number and locator. If immigration custody was involved, use the A-number and country of birth. If USMS controlled the movement, use the federal docket and agency route.
Then ask what followed. A past BOP release may lead to supervised release. A county transfer may lead to BOP, ICE, or another jail. ICE community release may carry check-ins. A USMS court-ordered release can still encounter a different detainer. Only the receiving record resolves those branches.
The Woodward County release search and record process covers the local starting point when the custodian is unclear. Keep county, Oklahoma state, federal prison, and immigration events separate. That discipline turns a vague missing-name question into a traceable custody history.
